Subject	HELP!Oil/smoke coming out from engine bay!

Message	2days ago when I got home..i opened the hood and saw that where the battery sits..next to it..from under there was smoke coming out..at 1st i freaked out thinking the car maybe caught on fire so i disconnected the battery..then noticed that there was oil all around (see pic) at the back side next to the battery..looked like as if its leaking from this small filter thats coming out from the oil cap (see pic).. could someone tell me whats that filter for?and should i remove it and put a regular oil cap? I bought the car like that so I dont know what that thing is for. theres oil the deeper you look..on the wires n all.please help
